DOS guide

A practical guide to location privacy

Nearby features work best when you understand what location does—and what it does not reveal.

01

Understand the permission

Read the operating-system prompt and privacy notice before enabling location. Your device controls app access; the service’s visibility setting controls whether you participate in nearby discovery. Choose only the access needed for the feature and review device permissions later.

02

Treat distance as approximate

A nearby result is not an exact pin on a map. GPS reception, indoor spaces and device settings can change an estimate. Do not use a social app to track someone or assume a displayed distance identifies their precise position. DOS is not an emergency location service.

03

Keep sensitive details private

Avoid publishing a home address, private number, daily timetable or financial details. Only connect social accounts and photos you are comfortable making public. Check location tags and public contact details on linked profiles, and review DOS visibility and reporting options before participating.
