Keep private details private
Only add information you are comfortable sharing publicly Never put passwords, sign-in codes or sensitive personal details in your profile
Public profile sharing and nearby visibility are different controls Review both before sharing
Build a profile with clear boundaries
Use a current photo you have permission to share and details you would be comfortable showing to people outside your close circle A short interest or a relevant social account can provide more useful context than a long biography Leave out your home address, private phone number, timetable and financial information
Before linking a social account, view it as a stranger would Public posts, tags and contact buttons may reveal more than your DOS profile Changing a DOS field does not change the content or privacy settings on another platform
Nearby visibility and a public web profile are different
Nearby discovery uses location and your sharing choices An optional public web profile is a page you choose to publish and share by link Publishing that page is a separate decision; stopping nearby sharing does not automatically remove a published page
Anyone with a published profile link may be able to view its public content without a DOS account Think about where you post the link and which details you include Unpublishing a page cannot remove screenshots or copies already made elsewhere Review visibility choices and the privacy policy for the current behaviour
Follow a link thoughtfully
A social link helps continue a conversation on a service the person has chosen to share It is not a verified identity badge, a guarantee of authenticity, or permission to contact friends and family Check the destination before signing in, and never send a password or verification code in a message
If a profile impersonates someone, contains a suspicious link or is used for harassment, use the reporting route Keep any evidence limited to what is needed and avoid forwarding someone’s private information publicly
